What kind of porta potty should I rent?
Depends on the crowd. A standard unit is the workhorse. It has a 60 to 70 gallon holding tank and sits about 44 by 48 inches on the ground, so it drops onto most driveways and lots. Under ANSI/PSAI Z4.3, one weekly service visit covers up to 10 users over a 40 hour week, so higher traffic means either more units or more visits. If your crew handles paints, coatings, herbicides or insecticides, OSHA 1926.51(f)(1) requires washing facilities, which means adding a handwashing station rental or a portable sink rental. Do you rent accessible units and place them right?
Yes. An ADA accessible porta potty is a ground-level unit with room to maneuver. ADA Standards section 304.3.1 calls for a 60 inch turning circle inside, and section 404.2.3 sets a 32 inch clear door opening. Placement matters more than people think. The ground has to be stable, firm and slip resistant under ADA Standards section 302.1, and the route to the unit needs a 36 inch clear width under section 403.5.1.
